Los Feliz Today

The mostly hillside Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz is rich in style, architecture, culture, and full of things to do and see. Great restaurants to eat at such as Alcove, Rockwell, Fred 62, Little Dom’s and more. Los Feliz is adjacent to some wonderful attractions such as Griffith Park and Observatory, the Autry Museum, Los Angeles Zoo, and Greek Theatre.

Bit of History

Corporal Jose Vicente Feliz was not necessarily one of the first inhabitants of the area, but as one of the first persons to receive a land grant in the state of California, he had a big impact on its development.  One can still visit the 1830s adobe house that his heirs built that still stand on Crystal Springs Drive in Griffith Park. Los Feliz also has a rich architectural history and famous roots in the entertainment industry. Los Feliz is home to some famous homes as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House and Hollyhock House as well as Richard Neutra’s Lovell House.

One of the most impactful characters to the entertainment world was born in Los Feliz, Mickey Mouse – drawn up right in Walt’s uncle’s garage on Kingswell Avenue. Disney also had studios in Los Feliz and nearby Silver Lake. Amongst other early studios in the area was The First-National Warner Brothers Studio and ABC Television Center – now home to Prospect Studios located on Talmadge Street and Prospect. 4401 W. Sunset Blvd. was longtime home to the PBS television station KCET until it was sold in 2011 to the Church of Scientology.
